Grigoris Digkas (b.1984) is a photographer and researcher from Thessaloniki, Greece. Photography for him functions as a language of communication and personal expression, but also as a means of inquiry and research. His research interests revolve around notions of displacement and exile in a political, social and cultural context. His themes are developed in narratives, using the landscape and its inherent cultural characteristics as an allegory. Over the last years he deals with internal and external migration of Greeks arising from the economic crisis, looking at the issue from a cultural point of view, while trying to incorporate characteristics of Greek culture into a contemporary photographic narrative. Grigoris’ work is usually conceived and carried out in book forms due to the intimate nature of the medium and its potential for creative storytelling.
